JobsOhio Investment Announced For Cleveland Innovation District

Today, State Rep. Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) joined Gov. Mike DeWine and other leaders during a virtual announcement for the launch of the Cleveland Innovation District. The initiative comes with a committed $565 million investment through a mix of grants, tax credits, and loans by JobsOhio, DSA/State of Ohio, and Cleveland Clinic.

“This is a great start to the new year for our region of the state with this significant investment,” said Patton. “This is a very innovative and collaborative economic development initiative, and I am proud to be a part of this process as this comes to fruition across Cuyahoga County.”

The Cleveland Innovation District is an investment to five Cleveland institutions in order to build, retain and increase job growth throughout Northeast Ohio; the five institutions involved with the innovation district includes Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve, MetroHealth, Cleveland State University, and University Hospitals.

The plan is projected to create 10,000 jobs over ten years for the Cleveland Innovation District. Additionally, the innovation district is appealing to both technology and research-based businesses and for the talent that they intend to recruit. Further, the project is aiming to create 10,000 indirect jobs for career fields such as hospitality and retail.

“I want to thank the governor and lieutenant governor for their hard work on this and I see exciting things to come for our businesses and workers throughout the Cleveland area. Even during these stressful times of a global pandemic, it’s promising to see our part of the state remain competitive for business and workforce development,” Patton added.
