Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes North Royalton Student
Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom
Sophia Koukios of North Royalton, was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students for the month of November in recognition of her academic achievements and leadership.
Sophia a fifth grader at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her teacher Ms. Walls in recognition of her hard work and determination to succeed in the online classroom. As a Star Student, Sophia will be presented a certificate recognizing her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s website.
With so much uncertainty around how traditional schools would be operating due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sophia came to Ohio Connections Academy to be in a more consistent learning environment.

“I love the fact that I am able to work at my own pace at OCA, and I feel like I have more freedom to choose what I work on each day. This allows me to spend more time on things I don’t understand,” Sophia said. “I also like the fact that I’m able to take field trips during the week with my family and work school around it.”
“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Sophia and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”
