Rep. Anthony Gonzalez Takes Ohio Cop To State Of The Union
The Republican congressman brought Olmsted Township Police Officer Gary Wilson to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday night.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Anthony Gonzalez brought Olmsted Township Police Officer Gary Wilson to this year's State of the Union address. Wilson is the father of Brett Wilson, a firefighter and U.S. Army vet who was killed while trying to provide aid after a car hit a utility pole.
Gonzalez, a Republican from Rocky River, honored Wilson in a speech on the floor of the U.S. House in November 2019. "We are heartbroken by the loss of this Olmsted Township resident and Columbia Township firefighter, Brett Wilson," Gonzalez said. "Brett, the son of an Olmsted Township police officer, was a true hero and a public safety servant. Brett will be deeply missed by his friends, family and the community."
Gary Wilson, Brett's father, became a sworn police officer in 2003. He became a full-time officer in 2012. He was one of two police officers honored by the township in 2019 for rescuing a disoriented man who had wandered away from his home during a snowstorm and collapsed in a wooded area, according to cleveland.com.
