Roller Derby Charity Bout Comes To Northeast Ohio
The match will be held November 23 and proceeds will benefit a LGBTQ+ community center.
BRRD: Burning River Roller Derby (BRRD), Cleveland’s women’s flat-track roller derby league, is excited to announce their final bout of the year: Black and Blue 14. Starting at 7 p.m. at the Soccer Sportsplex in North Olmsted on Saturday, November 23, the annual charity bout divides BRRD skaters into two teams, Team Black and Team Blue, for a face-off against friends. Each team will also feature a guest captain, a Cleveland local who participated in and won a recent bidding war to coach alongside Burning River Roller Derby skating captains. This will be the last chance to catch a Burning River Roller Derby bout this year.
In addition to the gameplay, attendees won’t want to miss the half-time show: Full Contact Musical Chairs. An annual crowd favorite, Full-Contact Musical Chairs is a no-holds barred battle for the crown fought by their newest skaters. To demonstrate BRRD’s ongoing commitment of embracing the Cleveland community, a portion of the proceeds from Black and Blue's guest captain auctions, raffles, and ticket sales is donated to a local charity selected by the league. This year's charity partner is Colors+ Youth Center, a local community center that strives to strengthen Cleveland's LGBTQ+ youth and allies through education, advocacy, and support services.
“Colors+ is a 501c3 with the mission to strengthen LGBTQ+ youth and allies through individual and community wellness,” said Kristen Pepera, Executive Director of Colors+. "We were and still are extremely humbled to be chosen by Burning River Roller Derby as their beneficiary for their charity bout. BRRD is an incredible organization that not only accepts and celebrates individuals, but welcomes others into the community.” Colors+ Youth Center will also be in-house during the bout for anyone wanting to donate further or gather more information on the organization.
