Safety Village Program Will Help Strongsville Kids

Safety Town was canceled last year due to the pandemic. Police are trying to catch up kids who missed the program.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — Strongsville police will host Safety Village this summer, the department announced.

COVID-19 prevented officers from organizing Safety Town in 2020. To accommodate children who missed last year's event, the department plans to hold Safety Village for children attending kindergarten this school year.

"We had hoped to have this age group attend a full Safety Town this summer. Due to continued social distancing guidelines, this year's Safety Town will have fewer children in each class. Logistically, it wasn't possible to accommodate this goal due to the need to increase the number of Safety Town sessions. We believe this alternative will be an excellent program for our children and our community," police officials said on social media.

Safety Village will be held June 19, with a rain date of June 26. Registration is $16 per child. Parents can register their kids starting March 15.

Like Safety Town, Safety Village will teach kids how to handle different situations and tips to remain safe. The program will include: bus, bike and fire safety, Stranger Danger simulations, 911 call simulations, and visits from police cars and fire trucks.
