Strongsville High School Hires New Football Coach
Former West Geauga High School Head Coach Louis Cirino will take over coaching duties for the Mustangs.

STRONGSVILLE, OH - Louis Cirino will take over varsity head coaching duties for Strongsville High School. Cirino's hiring was approved by the Strongsville Board of Education on Tuesday. He will be introduced to the Mustangs football program and begin preparations for the 2017 season immediately, the district says.
Cirino was the head coach at West Geauga High School, a position he had held since 2010. During his tenure as head coach, the West Geauga program collected a 46-25 record and qualified for the OHSAA playoffs three times.
In 2015, Cirino's West Geauga team won their opening round playoff game and became part of the final 16 teams in the playoffs. That same year, he added several accolades to his resume. Cirino was named Chagrin Valley Conference Coach of the Year, AP Northeast Ohio Lakes All-District Coach of the Year. He also earned the Ohio Division III State Coach of the Year award in 2013.

“My wife and I are extremely excited about this opportunity and look forward to becoming a part of this District and to become fully involved in the Strongsville community. I am ready to get to work and to not only meet our high school student-athletes, but also partner with our community. I can’t wait to proudly wear green and white all the time. I am extremely grateful for the trust that the school board and administration has placed in me to move Strongsville’s football program in the right direction,” said Cirino in a statement.
Cirino graduated from The Ohio State University and then spent time with the Buckeyes as an assistant coach from 2004 to 2006. He earned a Master's Degree from Cleveland State University. In the classrom, Cirino teaches social studies. He was named West Geauga High School's Teacher of the Year in 2009 and 2014.

“Mr. Cirino is a great addition to the staff at Strongsville High School. We were impressed with his leadership and his on-the-field coaching success. More importantly, we are excited about his passion for developing our student-athletes, in terms of guidance, mentorship, and helping them grow and build life skills beyond the football field,” said Mark Smithberger, Strongsville High School Principal in a statement.
