Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Toledo Student

Aubrey Cook of Toledo, was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students for the month of May in recognition of her academic achievements and leadership.

Aubrey, a fourth-grade student at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her teacher Ms. Groppe in recognition of her hard work, determination, and positive attitude towards learning. As a Star Student, Aubrey will be presented a certificate recognizing her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s website. Each month OCA recognizes two students in each of the four grade bands for their achievements in and out of the classroom.

Aubrey’s parents, Sharon and Brent, enrolled their daughter in Ohio Connections Academy in 2017 because they believe she needed a more individualized learning plan that prevented her from falling behind. According to Aubrey, she had a lot of trouble working as fast as the other students at her previous school and likes OCA because she can take as much time as she needs to learn the material.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Aubrey and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”

Ohio Connections Academy is a free, fully-online, public school that students in grades K-12 attend from home. Enrollment for Ohio Connections Academy for the 2020-2021 school year is currently open and the school is hosting information sessions for interested families to learn more about virtual education and how teachers support the students. During the information sessions, families will also have an opportunity to learn about the online public school’s curriculum and interact with school representatives and other parents.
