Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank Receives $20,000 from Walmart

The Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank today announced it has received a $20,000 grant from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to help the non-profit meet the increased need in the eight-county region it serves following the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Due to the recent health crisis, there has been a significant decline in retail donations as well as member agencies closing. Because of these things, more individuals and families in our area have been affected,” said Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank President & CEO James Caldwell. “We are fortunate to have members of the National Guard to help our warehouse staff in helping package and distribute boxes freely in the communities where agencies are no longer. "

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank has worked to remain open to serve and strengthen the communities it serves and has maintained a contingency plan to approach this newest challenge. This includes working with its member agencies that distributes food through pantries, shelters and churches to ensure that we will be able to safely and effectively reach those in need.

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation looks to support and collaborate with organizations such as the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Foodbank that help create economic opportunities, enhance long-term environmental sustainability and strengthen local communities.

“We make it a priority to make a difference in the communities in which we operate and helping local organizations that help others to live better is very important to Walmart and the Walmart Foundation,” said Walmart Market Manager Gerry Goulet. “Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, there are more individuals and families in northwest Ohio who might be experiencing issues with food security. We are glad to have the opportunity to support the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank and its mission to support those in times of need.”
