ICYMI: Tax Credit Approved for Amazon.com Sorting Center in Twinsburg

A tax-credit for an Amazon sorting center expected to be built at the CornerStone Business Park in Twinsburg has been approved

Online retailer, Amazon.com wants to open a sorting center in Twinsburg, its first Northeast Ohio facility and is seeking a tax-credit deal.

On Monday, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 1.113 percent, six-year tax credit for Amazon provided that they maintain operations at the facility for at least nine years, reports Cleveland.com.

According to Cleveland.com, signs point to Amazon building their sorting facility at the 165-acre CornerStone Business Park site at 2000 East Aurora Road. This "Prime" location was once the site of the Chrysler stamping plant which was closed in 2010 and later demolished.

The Twinsburg facility will help improve package delivery efficiency according to an Ohio Development Services Agency project summary. Amazon anticipates that by the end of 2019, the new facility will generate more than $4 million in payroll and support the equivalent of 150 full-time jobs. Calculating those numbers would make the tax-credit worth $270,000 which could fluctuate if Amazon's jobs and payroll numbers change.
