Youngstown State Lockdown Lifted, Suspect Turns Himself In

The university was briefly on lockdown on Monday afternoon after an allegedly armed man was seen near the campus recreation center.

YOUNGSTOWN, OH — The lockdown at Youngstown State University has been lifted.

After an allegedly armed man was seen near the campus recreation center, university officials issued a shelter-in-place alert. Police investigated the sighting and the suspect turned himself in before 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

There have been no reports of injuries or casualties, the university said. This was not believed to be an active shooter situation. .

The university said they were alerted to the presence of a firearm-toting suspect on campus and issued a lockdown and shelter-in-place warning. Police then rushed to the campus to investigate the report. It was quickly determined there was no active shooter, but a man with a gun may have been spotted on campus.
