3-Year-Old Oklahoma Girl Mauled To Death By Family's New Pit Bull
Jason Dodge said he brought home the dog, Remington, after seeing it was friendly with his son. Five days later, it killed his daughter.

DUNCAN, OK — A 3-year-old girl in Oklahoma was mauled to death by the family's pit bull, who had owned the dog for less than a week. Now, the family is asking for help covering the cost for her funeral.
Jason Dodge told multiple media outlets he left his home near the 600 block of North F Street in Duncan on Sunday to visit his brother. He left his daughter Rylee Marie Dodge with her grandmother, Jason's mother. Dodge was gone for about 20 minutes when he received a call from his mother. The only words he heard was "your daughter" and "the dog," KFOR-TV reported. He knew something was wrong.
He rushed home to a grisly scene. His mother, bloodied, was on top of the dog, trying her hardest to pull it off the girl, Dodge told the outlet. Rylee was limp on the bed "chewed up," he said. Blood was strewn throughout the home.

Dodge grabbed his daughter as emergency workers arrived, but there was nothing they could do, he told the outlet. Her injuries were too extensive. Rylee died on Sunday, according to a GoFundMe post created to help the family raise money for her funeral. The account had raised nearly $700 by noon on Tuesday.
"She leaves behind an older brother Bently and 2 younger sisters Ellie and Gracie who miss her beyond words," the post said. "No one can imagine a world without you! We love and miss you so much Rylee ❤❤"

Dodge told KFOR-TV he had brought his son to see the dog before taking it home last and said it had been friendly.
A police officer shot the pit bull to death on Sunday when it charged a police officer, The Oklahoman reported, citing police Sgt. Layle Baker. KSWO-TV said the dog's name was Remington.
Rylee’s grandmother had to go to a hospital but was not bitten, Dodge said.
Police were investigating.
According to DogBites.org, there were 31 dog bite-related deaths in America in 2016. Pit bulls, which make up just 6 percent of dogs owned in the U.S., contributed to 22 of them — more than 70 percent.
Duncan is about 70 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. It has a population of about 23,000 people.
