Health Share Earns $43M; Will Reinvest Into Community Health

From OHP: As part of Oregon’s commitment to better quality health care and health outcomes for Oregon Health Plan (OHP) members, coordinated care organizations (CCOs), like Health Share, are scored for their performance on efforts to improve the health of the communities they serve.

In 2017, Health Share met improvement targets or benchmarks on 14 of 17 measures, qualifying for 100 percent of pay-for-performance dollars available, a total of $43.7 million.

“These results stem from hard work and collaboration across our health plan and health system partners,” said Janet L. Meyer, CEO of Health Share. “Earning 100 percent of quality incentive funds allows us to continue reinvesting in community health. This includes important work in early life health — like kindergarten readiness — mental health and addictions, as well as efforts to address health disparities and health equity.”

The pay-for-performance model rewards CCOs for outcomes, rather than quantity of services. The improvement targets become more difficult each year, ensuring CCOs continue to work towards better outcomes.

Health Share’s highlights from the report include:

• Over 12 percentage point increase in health assessments for children entering foster care
• 56 percent of adolescents receiving qualifying well care visits — well above the benchmark of 51 percent
• Increased rates for both screening for depression and follow-up after hospitalization for mental illness
