Portland's Racist History Revealed In Oct. 30 CBSN Documentary

State laws barring non-whites from living in Oregon, sanctioned white supremacy, and Jeremy Christian will be discussed, according to CBSN.

PORTLAND, OR — CBSN, CBS News' 24-hour streaming service, on Monday night will air an original documentary examining the history of systemic racism and bigotry in Oregon and Portland, specifically.

"Portland | Race Against The Past" will air on CBSN at 5 p.m., 8 p.m., and 11 p.m. Oct. 30, and according to CBS News the program aims to lift the "'mask' that hides a racist past and a troubling, white supremacist present" in the supposedly progressive Pacific Northwest haven.

The program will investigate the state's past in order to contextualize the present divisive political and social atmosphere in Oregon. Beginning with Oregon's 1857 constitutional amendment barring people of color from residing within the state, the show will conclude with the recent tragedy in late May involving 35-year-old Jeremy Joseph Christian, who allegedly stabbed to death two men and gravely wounded another during a racially motivated altercation on a TriMet MAX train.

A protest dubbed 'Trump Free Speech' by organizers was met by a large contingent of counter-demonstrators who viewed the protest as a promotion of racism. The demonstrations come in the wake of the recent violent attack on the city's MAX train line when Ricky Best, 53, and Taliesin Namkai-Meche, 23, were stabbed to death and Micah Fletcher,21, was severely injured after they tried to protect two teenage girls, one of whom was wearing a hijab, from being harassed with racial taunts by suspect Jeremy Christian.
