Yaghmourian had been hiking the Timberline Trail over the weekend with his friend, Hayden Kirschbaum, when he stopped to rest. Officials originally said that he had hurt his knee but n Thursday, Collinson said that Yaghmourian had just been sore and fatigued.

Kirschbaum told officials that his friend had told him to go on while he rested. When Kirschbaum got back to the lounge and Yaghmourian didn't return, he notified officials, telling them that he'd left his friend by where the Timberline Trail and Pacific Coast Trail meet.

"This was far higher than we expected," Collinson said, adding that hypothermia appears to have been a contributing factor.

Yaghmourian was positively identified by the Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office after his body was brought back down the mountain.

Collinson said that it appeared that Yghmourian appeared to have missed a turn in an attempt to go down the mountain and ended up going up instead. It appears that the person was trying to set up camp for the night.

"He was trying to set up a tent and had a sleeping bag"," Collinson said. "There might have been a small fall of about 30 feet, which caused some sort of injury."

They believe that he succumbed to the elements about one half-mile east of Silcox Hut.
