Did You Feel the Earthquakes? Scientists Detect Swarm at Mt. Hood

Earl 100 earthquakes in the past 24 hours; none bigger than a 1.9 magnitude.

There's been a swarm of small quakes by Mt. Hood over the past 24 hours, according to the United States Geological Society.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, there were approximately 100 small quakes.

The strongest was originally measured at 2.4 magnitude but later downgraded to a 1.9.

The first one had occurred early Sunday evening.

The activity is not unusual, scientists say.

Most of the activity took place between one and four miles below the surface.

Mt. Hood has not erupted since the 1700s and, despite the activity, is not thought to be in any danger of erupting again anytime soon.
