Sells first joined the department in 2015 as the deputy chief. She has more than 46 years of law enforcement experience in Oregon and California, having served in nearly every position. She was hired as Police Chief in 2016 following the retirement of former Police Chief Craig Junginger. During her tenure, one of her top priorities included ensuring officers reached out to the community they serve, through community events and the popular Coffee with a Cop informal conversations. Sells oversaw the establishment of the Mental Health Team, a pilot program that pairs a trained behavioral clinician with police officers, as well as the recent roll out of body worn cameras. Another one of Sells’ passions is officer wellness, and the department implemented mental health counseling and emphasized physical fitness.

“As I have reflected on my long career and approach a milestone birthday, I have decided the moment has come for me to spend time with my family. I am honored to have served this community for the past five years,” said Sells. “This is a challenging time for our nation and our community, and I’d like Gresham residents to know that our police officers are dedicated to earning the trust of the community, and I have every confidence that going forward, the department will continue to make strides in transparency and accountability.”
