Gresham Street Sweeping: What You Need to Know

As the weather turns, street sweeping becomes more important so storm drains don't get clogged.

It's sunny now but as every Oregonian knows - the rain is coming and with the rain, the possibility of clogged storm drains. So, Gresham is reminding its residents of what they need to know.

"Street sweeping keeps roads safe by removing debris, such as paper and leaves that may be an obstacle to pedestrians and bikes," the city says. "Sweeping removes debris that clog storm drains and reduces the amount of pollutants that collects on city streets."

The sweeping happens on the city's arterial streets, the third week of every month. To check for your street and schedule, the city has set up a website.

The city says there are several things to keep off the street on sweeping day:

  • Garbage cans
  • Recycle carts
  • Cars
  • Boats
  • Campers
  • Basketball hoops
  • Overhanging tree branches must be at least 12’ above the street and 8’ above the sidewalk
  • Keep vegetation from overhanging the curb

"Don't blow or place leaves or yard debris in the street. This is a violation of City code. The City sweeps leaves that naturally fall or blow into the streets from nearby trees."
