Gresham Taps Texas School Official For Administrative Role
Lisa Riggs, currently an associate superintendent in San Antonio, will take over as a Gresham-Barlow assistant superintendent.

From GBSD: The Gresham-Barlow School District (GBSD) has selected Lisa Riggs to serve as GBSD’s assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Riggs is currently an associate superintendent/chief academic officer in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). Prior to that she worked as the district’s senior executive director of curriculum and instruction.
Before her time working in Texas, she oversaw the gifted and talented education program for the Washoe County School District in Reno, Nevada. She was a language arts and writing teacher prior to joining the administrative ranks.

“I am excited to welcome Lisa Riggs to Team GBSD. Throughout the interview process, her abilities to grasp concepts, interpret data that would lead to improved student outcomes, reference current research in the areas of curriculum/instruction and professional development, identify innovative approaches to creating pathways for students, her willingness to work collaboratively, and her strong communication skills impressed me,” said Superintendent Katrise Perera. “She has a wealth of proven success when it comes to student achievement. I have no doubt that she will be an asset to our team, but most importantly — she will be a resource to our collaborative efforts in preparing ALL students for success.”
Riggs has a master’s of education in educational leadership from the University of Victoria, B.C., Canada. In addition, she earned a master’s of education in curriculum and instruction from Seattle City University.

She has a bachelor of arts degree in English and education from Washington State University.
In her role as assistant superintendent, in conjunction with the district leadership team, building principals, instructional coaches, technology department, and staff, Riggs will work on the planning of an instructional framework, actionable steps towards district goals, and the implementation of innovative instructional program improvements in the district from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
Riggs will replace Teresa Ketelsen who is retiring at the end of the school year.
