Law Enforcement Agencies Team-Up for "Operation Dry Water"
Throughout Oregon this weekend the weather should be nice. And river patrols want people to be safe.

With the weather expected to sunny and hot this weekend, law enforcement agencies across the state are teaming up for "Operation Dry Water" - a program intended to discourage impaired boating and prevent injuries.
Alcohol use is the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents; where the primary cause was known, it was listed as the leading factor in 21% of deaths according to U.S. Coast Guard Recreational Boating Statistics 2014.
"Whether a person is operating a car on the road, or a boat on the water, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal and can lead to serious consequences for operators and passengers alike.," said Captain Steve Alexander from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

* Sun, wind, noise, vibration and motion --"stressors" common to the boating environment-- intensify the effects of alcohol, drugs, and some medications.
* Make it an Overnighter - couches or hotel rooms make great landing pads and are far more comfortable than a jail bed.
* Reach out for help - if you've been drinking or using marijuana you shouldn't be boating / driving. Call a cab, phone a friend or send for backup on Twitter - it may mean the difference in someone else's life.
* If you do see an impaired driver behind the wheel or operating a boat call and report it: 911
