MHCC's Summit Theater Company Puts On First Show This Month

GRESHAM, OR - From Mt. Hood Community College: This fall, the Mt. Hood Community College Performing Arts’ new Summit Theatre Company will present its inaugural production, the play "Fiction" by Steven Dietz.

"Fiction" tells the story of two acclaimed fiction writers, a husband and wife, as their relationship is tested and they struggle to distinguish truths from lies within their own lives. "Fiction" turns the eternal love triangle on its head when a woman from the past emerges from the pages of the couple’s own diaries.

The couple is played by Cecily Overman, as Linda, and MHCC Artist Director Mace Archer, as Michael. Jennifer Kuenzi plays Abby, and Matt Pavik directs and serves as scene designer. MHCC Instructor of Theatre Design Daryl Harrison-Carson designed the lighting.

The MHCC Performing Arts program recently launched the Summit Theatre Company, which brings a professional-community theatre hybrid to the Portland metro area. Summit Theatre will feature productions with both professional artists and community artists, creating opportunities for actors and designers of all levels to create great, local theatre.

“Summit Theatre intends to form connections between our students, the professional theatre, and the theatrical community of East County,” said Archer, MHCC’s artistic director for Theatre Arts. “Students attending MHCC will benefit from the chance to work with seasoned professionals, and community members living east of Portland will be able to see more professional productions without having to travel far from their home.”
