Mom Who Died in Fall with Son at Horsetail Falls Identified

Stephanie Cohen was the daughter of chef Lisa Schroeder, the owner of Mother's Bistro downtown.

A 37-year-old woman was pronounced dead after falling nearly 100-feet in two falls, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said Sunday afternoon.

She was identified Monday as Stephanie Cohen of Portland.

Cohen's mother is Lisa Schroder, owner of Mother's Bistro downtown.

Emergency crews arrived around 5:20 p.m. after a report that Cohen and her three-year-old son had fallen twice. First between 50 and 60 feet and then again another 20-30 feet.

Emergency responders tried to save her but to no avail.

The boy, Oliver, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The two had been hiking between upper and lower Horsetail Falls when they fell.

In addition to Oliver, Cohen is survived by Olivers twin brother, a 13-year-old daughter, an 11-year-old son, and the father of her children, her long-time boyfriend.
