VIDEO: National Guard Helicopters Injured Hiker From the Gorge
Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies, National Guard and others team up to rescue the 66-year-old who fell 100 feet down an embankment.
A 66-year-old woman who was hiking in the Columbia River Gorge had to be airlifted out after she fell 100 feet down a steep embankment Saturday afternoon. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
It happened before noon. Deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Trail Hornets squad were called to the John B. Yeon Trailhead. After about 45 minutes, the squad - working with a unit from Corbett Fire and the American Medical Response Reach and Treat Unit made their way to her.
Search and rescue teams from the sheriff's office and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue also assisted.

Around 7:00, a National Guard helicopter was able to perform what they call a hoist rescue of the injured hiker.
