10 Halloween Safety Tips from Lake Oswego Police

The Lake Oswego Police Department shares tips about how to stay safe this Halloween with Patch.

The Lake Oswego Police Department wants to keep you safe this Halloween. Patch spoke with Julia Warren, Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police about the different ways that people can stay safe on this spooky holiday.

  1. Wear reflective clothing or add reflective tape to your clothing.
  2. Carry flashlights and/or glow sticks.
  3. Dress for the weather. Halloween can be very cold and very wet.
  4. Masks can obstruct your visions, so face paint is a safer alternative.
  5. Travel on the sidewalk. If there are no sidewalk, walk on the edge of the road facing traffic.
  6. Obey all regular traffic and pedestrian laws.
  7. Be very careful when crossing streets. Do not assume drivers see you, until their vehicle comes to a complete stop.
  8. Stay in groups and stick to areas you know.
  9. Anyone younger than 13 should have an adult with them.
  10. It’s best to only eat packaged treats, like wrapped candy bars and sealed packs of loose candy (like m&ms).

These safety tips are especially important for families in Lake Oswego who have children that are planning to trick-or-treat. Be sure to review these precautions with your kiddos before the madness and magic of All Hallows Eve commences.
