'Art In The Garden' Will Showcase Creativity This May

The annual Arts Council of Lake Oswego event will be held at Tumwater Vineyard in West Linn and feature a handful of local artists.

From the Arts Council of Lake Oswego: Join the Arts Council of Lake Oswego for this year’s Art in the Garden at beautiful Tumwater Vineyard on Pete’s Mountain May 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Attendees will have an exclusive glimpse into the artistic process with on-site demonstrations by local artists and the opportunity to take a piece of the experience home with them.

The evening will include delectable food by Nicoletta’s Table paired with Tumwater wines in a one-of-a-kind evening. Stroll through the grounds, watch artists create, and bid on specially selected silent and live auction items.

Jody Dunphy from Second Nature Project is known for her work in fostering a kinship with nature. Jody will create a large-scale seed sculpture, incorporating clover seeds and natural materials from the vineyard embedded in a cotton and abaca pulp screen.

Remember the evening by harvesting a piece of the growing screen to plant and take home — with all supplies furnished by Al’s Garden Center.

Palmarin Merges work draws from the desire to become more sustainable by re-using materials close at hand and combining them with the printmaking process. She will be demonstrating many forms of printmaking including linoleum cut, block, woodcut, and relief ink printing.

Attendees will be able to participate in a hands-on opportunity to create prints and learn the process.

Austen Weitzel, known for his work in creating principle characters of Laika films, will be making paper insects. Insects have always inspired Austen and his child-like excitement motivates his creations.

Art in the Garden will provide direct support for the many Arts Council programs including the 510 Museum & ARTspace, the only dedicated visual arts gallery in Lake Oswego, staffing for arts education and outreach, and the nationally recognized public art program, Gallery Without Walls.
