'Drink & Draw' In Lake Oswego Next Month

The Arts Council of Lake Oswego's next Drink & Draw event will combine watercolor instruction with meditation for a truly relaxing night.

LAKE OSWEGO, OR — Drink, paint, and meditate next month at the Art Council of Lake Oswego's "Drink & Draw" community event, Watercolor as Meditation.

From 6 to 8 p.m. March 2, artist and educator Laura Janes will guide participants as they learn-by-painting with watercolors while also focusing on artistic creation as a meditative experience at the 510 Museum & ARTspace, located at 510 First St. in Lake Oswego.

Being held in conjunction with the council's latest exhibition, Art as Refuge, art council spokesman Robin Krakauer said this latest entry in the council's Drink & Draw series discusses "how art can create a space for dialogue about issues — social, political, and personal — which affect us all."

"Art brings people together, and this is a great event that can be enjoyed individually, with friends, family or just as a couples night out," Krakauer told Patch in an email. "It is a great combination of instruction, food, and creativity. My favorite way to describe it is a quote from Paul Cezanne: 'A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art.' Thus, everyone has their own individuality, creative outlet and expression."

For the food and 'drink' portion of the event, Krakauer said there will be a variety of beverages — including wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options, like cucumber water and other meditative drinks — as well as heavy appetizers.

Hummus and other vegetarian dishes, as well as fruits, cheeses, and desserts, will be combined with gluten-free options, she said, noting the menu has not yet been finalized.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online, by calling 503-675-3738, or by mailing a check to the Arts Council of Lake Oswego, 510 First St.

"These programs are part of our fundraising efforts to support our outreach and education programs," Krakauer explained. "We offer many different programs — such as 'Family Art-Making,' which is open to the community on Thursdays for ages 3 to 8 years old — artist demonstrations and lectures, along with other free programming in our 510 Museum & ARTspace."

The arts council provides all the necessary materials and only asks that participants where clothing appropriate for painting.
