'Honoring Our Rivers' Exhibition In Lake Oswego Opens This Week
The annual anthology of student art celebrating Oregon's watersheds will be on display at locations in Lake Oswego through April.

LAKE OSWEGO, OR – For the first time in 17 years, the annual anthology of art created by students across the state, Honoring Our Rivers, will be on display for the public to see up-close.
Hosted in partnership with the Arts Council of Lake Oswego at the Lake Oswego Public Library and the Adult Community Center, the Honoring Our Rivers exhibition will be displayed from April 6 through April 27, with a special closing week event beginning April 18 at the Art Council's 501 Museum & ARTspace gallery.
"Honoring Our Rivers presents a unique opportunity for the Arts Council to extend its exhibitions and programming into the community, facilitating greater access to the arts, and connecting to organizations with complementary missions," said Arts Council Executive Director Nicole Nathan. "In addition to the Lake Oswego Public Library and the Adult Community Center, we are pleased to collaborate with Willamette Partnership, a non-profit based in Portland that works to increase the pace, scope, and effectiveness of restoration and conservation to create benefits for both natural and human communities."

Produced annually by Willamette Partnership since 2000, Honoring Our Rivers invites professional artists and writers to join Oregon students in elementary through college grades to celebrate the state's watersheds and waterways through artwork, poetry, sculptures and photography.
The annual anthology is the only one of its kind, Nathan said, that "draws attention to our watersheds, encouraging people to reflect on their relationship to this environment."

"In addition to select student work, Honoring Our Rivers will feature oil paintings by Christopher Mooney and book art by Marilyn Stablein. Both artists contributed artwork to the 2017 anthology," Nathan continued. "Mooney’s work explores urban landscapes and Stablein creates whimsical sculptures using books, vintage papers, and found maps."
A special opening event will be held during the city's First Friday at the Adult Community Center from 5 to 7 p.m. April 6.
During the exhibition's closing week, the Arts Council and Willamette Partnership will host an art and poetry workshop in honor of Earth Day April 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the 510 Museum & ARTspace.
Advanced registration for the workshop is required and can be done online here.
