$99K Raised For Portland Dad Rammed By Car In 'Bias' Attack

Prosecutors said Mohammad Fawad Mohammadi, who lost a leg, was intentionally run over by a Puyallup man.

LAKE OSWEGO, OR -- Nearly $100,000 has been raised for an Oregon man who was rammed by a car earlier this month in an incident that prosecutors described as a bias attack. Mohammad Fawad Mohammadi, who is of Afghan descent, lost his leg in the March incident after pushing his wife out of harm's away, according to a GoFundMe page created for the family.

Perry George Nicolopoulos, a 68-year-old man from Puyallup, was arrested in the incident, and charged with attempt to murder, according to The Oregonian.

Prosecutors have since called the incident a bias crime, while others have labeled it as a hate crime.

The GoFundMe page said Mohammadi was immediately airlifted to a trauma center in Portland following the incident.

"He underwent surgery immediately in an attempt to repair his leg which was severely crushed. Currently it appears that he is suffering from the crushed leg, broken hips, fractured spine and numerous facial injuries," the fundraising page said.

The GoFundMe page described Mohammadi as the breadwinner of the family, who came to the US. after working as a military translator in Afghanistan. He and his wife are now parents to an 18-month-old boy.

"Fawad is loved by everyone he meets," the webpage said. "He always has a smile and exudes joy. He loves to share meals, music and dancing with friends. We are devastated that he has fought so hard to raise his family in a safe, happy place, only to have their lives changed instantly in such a brutal way."

As of Monday, the campaign raised $99,444.
