Tualatin Police Give Turkeys Instead Of Tickets Tuesday

The act of charity was made possible by a donation from the Tualatin Community Police Foundation.

TUALATIN, OR — Tualatin patrol officers received thanks from lucky(?) commuters they pulled over Tuesday after giving the unsuspecting speeders turkeys instead of tickets.

Taking an opportunity to turn potential frowns upside down, the officers gave turkeys to drivers who were stopped for minor violations Nov. 21. The spontaneous giveaway was made possible by the Tualatin Community Police Foundation, according to Tualatin police spokeswoman Jennifer Massey.

"One of the violators who received a turkey had planned on cooking the Thanksgiving turkey they already have at home and serving it to the homeless," Massey said in a statement. "They were thankful to receive a second turkey today, so they have one for their own family on Thanksgiving Day."
