Art Exhibit, Math Classes, Workshops Coming Up At CCC

Register for new summer math classes at Clackamas Community College in Wilsonville and enjoy offerings in Oregon City this month.

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR — Clackamas Community College on Thursday announced upcoming May workshops and a student art show as well as new program offerings beginning this summer, which include college-level math courses at the Wilsonville campus.

Math Classes Start in Wilsonville

Registration opens May 14 for CCC's summer math courses at the Wilsonville campus, located at 29353 S.W. Town Center Loop East.

The newly-offered college-level math courses will add to the variety apprenticeships, technical trainings, and general educations courses at CCC's Wilsonville campus, which all contribute to a student's Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree (AAOT).

CCC Student Art Show

A juried exhibition showcasing Clackamas Community College students' artwork, spanning a variety of disciplines, will open at the Oregon City campus' Alexander Gallery May 17 and be available for public viewing through June 7.

From painting and drawing to sculptures, ceramics, and jewelry-making, the students' finest work will be on display Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for during scheduled campus closures.

A free awards reception will be held May 17 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in the Niemeyer Center at 19600 Molalla Ave. in Oregon City.

Creative Writing Conference and Workshops

The Clackamas Community College's English Department will host on May 19 its annual Compose Creative Writing Conference on the Oregon City campus.

Offering workshops for fiction and nonfiction, poetry, comics, publishing and more, featured presenters will provide traditional and nontraditional students alike an introduction to the writing process.

Presenters this year include Jenny Forrester, Ed Skoog, Laura Stanfill, Justin Hocking, and Susan DeFreitas; they will offer workshops such as:

  • Book Marketing Basics for Independent and Small-press Authors;
  • Accessing the Outrageous;
  • Satire and Social Commentary in Comics;
  • Time to Write;
  • Finding Poetic Moments; and
  • Is the Back Story a Pain in Your Back?

Kate Gray will provide a welcoming speech to begin the day's events at 9:30 a.m., with workshops scheduled to run from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and again from 1:45 to 5 p.m. A lunch break will be held for an hour from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
