Cause Of Beavercreek Brush Fire Revealed
The fire damaged a home and it could have been worse. Firefighters have a simple request.
BEAVERCREEK, OR — A brush fire in the Beavercreek area outside Oregon City on Tuesday was reportedly caused by a carelessly discarded and still-burning cigarette. Clackamas Fire District #1 officials ask smokers to ensure their cigarettes are completely extinguished before throwing them away in an appropriate receptacle.
Firefighters were dispatched around 1:15 p.m. Aug. 28 to a rapidly spreading brush fire on South Ferguson Road, north of the Beavercreek community. When fire crews first arrived, the fire was reportedly threatening a home on the property.
The blaze grew to about one acre around the perimeter of the home before firefighters got control; and though the fire was handled within about 30 minutes, the home still sustained minor damage, fire officials said.
