Beavers Get Dam-Good Win to End Ducks Winning Streak

Oregon State wins annual competition for first time since 2007.

In some ways it was a game with little meaning. Two teams with losing records, no chance of a bowl game, playing what would be their last game of the season. But if you asked players on either team, their fans, pretty much who paid attention to either Oregon State or Oregon - it might as well have been the national championship.

And it was the Oregon State Beavers who came out on top, defeating the Oregon Ducks 34-24 in the 120th meeting of the two teams.

"it was stressful to watch but it was a joy to watch," Beaver Coach Gary Anderson said after the game.

The Beavers controlled the line of scrimmage - and the clock - and rode the back of Ryan Nall who ran for four of their five touchdowns.

In winning, the Beavers overcame a 10-point deficit, heading into the second half down 24-24.

Oregon State ran 73 plays for 411 total yards. Most of the plays - 53 - were on the ground where the Beavers had 310 total yards.

The Beavers - as has become routine this season - were plagued by penalties. They were flagged six times for 60 yards.

Both teams were coming off victories in otherwise disappointing seasons. The Ducks last week scored an upset win over ranked Utah while the Beavs blew out Arizona.

Oregon, which just two years ago had played for the national championship, had been expected to have a much stronger season. The Beavers, on the other hand, are in the second year of rebuilding under Anderson.
