CCC To Offer Electrician Apprenticeship Program

The specially added program at Clackamas Community College will help train and insert new electricians into the local employment market.

OREGON CITY, OR — Clackamas Community College this fall will begin offering a training program for apprentice electricians — a program typically only provided to employees of industrial and manufacturing plants, commercial buildings or buildings owned and operated by a government agency, according to CCC officials.

The Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) Apprenticeship program was made available to CCC students for the first time this year in order to train and insert into the local employment market new electricians. The program will be overseen by the recently formed Northwest Willamette Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC), which is made up by officials from Benchmade, Enoch Precision Machining, and Blount International.

CCC students in the program will learn basic electric and manufacturing skills, officials said.

“We are excited to have our own joint apprenticeship training partnership with Benchmade, Enoch Precision Machining and Blount International,” Shelly Tracy, director of the CCC Wilsonville campus, said. “Offering this apprenticeship locally will help address the labor market needs for trained electricians in the area, as there is currently a significant shortage.”

The program is apparently still looking for JATC training agents as well. Anyone interested in joining the program can contact Apprenticeship Outreach Coordinator Britany Ellerbrook at 503-594-6175, or email britany.ellerbrook@clackamas.edu.
