Final Pedestrian Safety Operation Happening Monday In Oregon City

The Oregon City Police Department's final pedestrian sting will take place in front of the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.

OREGON CITY, OR — The last pedestrian safety operation in Oregon City for 2018 will take place Monday along Washington Street, police officials announced Friday. The final four-hour operation is the last in a series of pedestrian safety stings that have seen numerous Oregon City drivers cited for various traffic violations.

Monday's operation will be held in front of the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center at 1726 Washington St. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And just as before, officers will focus on raising pedestrian safety awareness and educating drivers on pedestrian laws in Oregon.

Other pedestrian safety operations this year have yielded varying results.

While officers are given discretion to issue warnings in lieu of citations, most citations seem to be for failing to stop or remained stopped for a pedestrian and driving while using a mobile communication device.

As with the previous operations, signs will be posted near the safety zone warning drivers they've entered the safety operation area.
