Gas Prices Update: Celebrate Independence Day and Drive Somewhere

Prices are at an 11-year low for this time of year, says AAA.

Still not sure what to do for Independence Day Weekend?

You might want to think about getting in the car and heading on a road trip.

The AAA says the average price around the country — $2.31 — is the lowest it has been for this time of year since 2005. Prices are down 47 cents per gallon compared to this date last year.

The organization says that even where prices are highest in the nation, they tend to be cheaper than last year. In Oregon, where at $2.53-per-gallon prices are seventh highest in the country, the price per gallon is still 62 cents cheaper than it was last year.

California has the highest average price in the country, $2.90, followed by Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Nevada, District of Columbia, Oregon, Idaho, Illinois and Michigan.
