Oregon Marijuana Tax Revenues Keep Getting Higher
Revenues passed $40 million after just nine months.

The Oregon Department of Revenue has collected $40.2 million in tax revenue from the state's marijuana program as of September 3oth. Medical marijuana dispensaries started collecting a tax on their recreational sales on January 1, 2016.
The state collects a 25 percent tax on recreational marijuana sales.
In August, the state had reported having collected $25.5 million through the first seven months of the year for an average of $3.64 million per month. The new numbers up that average to $4.46 million per month.

When the state's Legislative Revenue Office first studied what would become the law allowing for marijuana sales, they forecast that the state would collect $16 million in the first fiscal year of the program.
They were a little off.
