Statement On Violence Towards Those Of Asian Descent In West Linn
'We are deeply troubled by latest acts of violence towards our friends, relatives, and neighbors of Asian descent throughout the Country.'
March 25, 2021
We are deeply troubled by the latest acts of violence towards our friends, relatives, and neighbors of Asian descent throughout the Country. Issues of stigma and bias related to the pandemic have already unfairly plagued those of Asian descent, who have been disproportionately affected. We acknowledge the grief, trauma, anger, stress, and fear those in the Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community are increasingly feeling and we stand firmly with you in condemning all acts of discrimination and violence.

Recently, an act of property theft and destruction was committed at a Buddhist Temple just outside of West Linn. While we are currently unaware if the incident was racially motivated, West Linn Police have been in contact with members, providing support and increased police presence in coordination with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
The AAPI community in West Linn is one of our largest demographic groups and adds immense value to our community. At times like these, we must turn to each other for support. Be aware that many may be feeling stress, grief, and fear. Reach out and let them know we care and stand with them, support AAPI-owned local businesses, and call out discriminatory and hateful behavior when you see it. Please call the State’s Bias Response Hotline (1-844-924-BIAS) or find resources and report bias incidents online at StandAgainstHate.Oregon.gov.
