Canby Memorial Trees to Liven Up Fairgrounds, Highway 99E After Arbor Day

Thirty-six dogwood and crapemyrtle memorial trees will be planted Saturday, April 29, near the Clackamas County Fairgrounds.

CANBY, OR – The Clackamas County Fairgrounds will be more colorful after this weekend thanks to three dozen dogwood and crapemyrtle trees that are being planted along the fairgrounds' fence line.

Blooms of pink, red, and purple blossoms will be visible from Highway 99E throughout the summer as a result of the city's efforts to beautify Canby and truly transform it into The Garden Spot –– the city's slogan –– as well as honor National Arbor Day, which is Friday, April 28.

The 36 memorial trees will be planted in an alternating pattern of pink dogwoods and crapemyrtles along North Pine Street and Northeast Fourth Avenue, parallel to Highway 99E, during a ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. April 29 at the fairgrounds, 694 N.E. Fourth Ave. The alternation, fairgrounds officials said, is to ensure colorful blooming all summer long –– with the dogwoods blooming in early summer and the crapemyrtles blooming in late summer.

The event is a continuation of the work being done in partnership by officials from the Canby Garden Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Clackamas County Fairgrounds and Event Center organizations, with help from a handful of interested Canby residents.

Together, these groups have already planted more than 10,000 spring bulbs along Highway 99E, inspiring other residents and business owners to also pledge to plant more flowers and trees in the city.
