Final Four Results: Lady Beavers Play Tough but Come up Short Against UConn

Despite losing, the Oregon State women went further than any basketball team in school history.

In the end, it was clear why people talk about the University of Connecticut Huskies Women's Basketball team in the country.

While the score was tied for just under a minute early on, the Oregon State Beavers couldn't keep up with the three-time defending champion Huskies.

The final was 80-59 with UConn on top.

But it was an incredible run for the Beavers who ended their season 32-5.

They owned a share of the Pac-12 regular season title for a second straight year. They won the Pac-12 post season tournament outright.

And while they will be losing some team leaders like seniors Ruth Hamblin and Jamie Wesiner, they will still have a strong core for next year.

Hamblin played well in her final game, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

And the team as a whole did an amazing thing - they held Conn's Breanna Stewart, who has been NCAA Player of the year the past three years, to only two points for the first half.

TWO POINTS.

And the Beavers kept it close at times early on.

There was the brief tie and then with about five to go in the first half, they were within a basket.

But UConn, as they have done almost every game over the past two years in which their average margin of victory has been 40, pulled away.

UConn now plays Syracuse Tuesday night in an effort to win their fourth straight championship.
