PA Retail Apocalypse: Another Chain Closing All Stores
The news for national chain retailers continues to be dismal. Another company this week said it would close all of its Pennsylvania stores.

PENNSYLVANIA — The news for national chain retailers in Pennsylvania continues to be dismal: Another national retail chain this week announced plans to close all of its stores, according to reports.
Papyrus, a stationery retailer, is closing all of its stores across the country, according to Fortune. The chain operates three Pennsylvania stores, including in King of Prussia and Philadelphia.
The company, which once had 450 locations, is down to 260 stores, which are currently in liquidation, reports indicate.

Papyrus hadn't issued a formal statement announcing the closings as of Tuesday, Fortune reported, but the website now states that all sales are final and no returns or guarantees will be honored. A 20 percent off storewide sale was also happening on the Papyrus website.
Papyrus joins other chains that are closing all or some of their Pennsylvania stores, including Pier 1 Imports, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sears, A.C. Moore, Kmart, Motherhood Maternity, Dressbarn and more.

Earlier this month, Pier 1 said it would likely close half of its stores to "better align its business with the current operating environment."
Twelve Pennsylvania stores, including in Fairless Hills, Paoli, and Feasterville, were removed from the chain's website. The company confirmed on social media the stores removed from the website were slated for closure. You can see a full list of the 12 Pier 1 stores expected for closure here.
Bed Bath & Beyond, the popular home wares and kitchen supply store operating 29 locations in the Keystone State, also announced changes to its local stores, including one planned closure.
The majority of Bed Bath & Beyond stores in Pennsylvania will remain open despite the announcement in late 2019 that the company had many changes planned for 2020, the company confirmed to Patch this month.
The location in Johnstown will be closed, spokeswoman Courtney Kuhl said, adding that the many of the chain's Pennsylvania stores will undergo a multi-million dollar facelift.
A.C. Moore, the craft retailer, announced in late 2019 all of its stores, including more than two dozens in Pennsylvania.
The news is a continuation of the recent climate for brick-and-mortar stores across America.
A record 9,300-plus store closings were announced in 2019, and that number could be even higher in 2020, according to a report by Business Insider.
Meanwhile some retailers are thriving, including the grocer Giant, which this monthannounced a $114 million expansion project throughout Pennsylvania in 2020.
