PHILADELPHIA, PA — Rita's has canceled its annual First Day of Spring water ice giveaway event at all locations. The event had been scheduled for March 20.

The company's 28-year tradition, which offers a free Italian ice for all patrons, was canceled due to the pandemic.

"In the best interests and safety of fans, franchisees and treat team members, Rita's made the difficult decision to cancel this year's event to avoid large gatherings which have the potential to spread COVID-19," the company said in a statement.
