A weakening winter storm moving across the country could bring light snow and a wintry mix to Eastern Pennsylvania late Monday before changing to sleet and freezing rain by Tuesday morning.

The storm is expected to drop less than a half-inch of snow in the Philadelphia area before switching to sleet and then all rain by 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to The National Weather Service. AccuWeather's accumulation predictions are a bit higher — 1 to 3 inches of snow for the Philadelphia region.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook ahead of the storm, which could put a snag in the Tuesday morning commute depending on when the switchover to rain occurs.

"Travel Tuesday morning in areas from New York City to Philadelphia could be delayed," AccuWeather Meteorologists Rob Richards said in a news release.

According to the National Weather Service, rain and snow are predicted between 9 p.m. and midnight Monday. After midnight, snow is likely.

Overnight, the snow will mix with rain and sleet, then precipitation should switch to all rain around 7 a.m. Temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s on Tuesday.

More rain is likely Tuesday night, before clearing overnight Wednesday.

Another round of wintry precipitation is possible Thursday, forecasters say. There is a slight chance of snow after 1 a.m. As of now, the Weather Service predicts just a 20 percent chance of that second round of winter weather later in the week.

AccuWeather is also warning of the risk of ice accumulation through Tuesday night.

"Even a thin glaze of ice or a small amount of snow can make for dangerous driving and walking conditions. Meteorologists are urging people to avoid traveling if possible until the storm has passed and crews have had a chance to clear off roads," AccuWeather said in a news release.
