Thunderstorms, Heavy Rains Target Eastern PA: See Latest Forecast

A few thunderstorms bringing heavy downpours and gusty winds are slated to hit the Keystone State Wednesday, forecasters said.

PENNSYLVANIA - A few thunderstorms bringing heavy downpours and gusty winds are slated to hit the Keystone State Wednesday, forecasters said.

While the thunderstorms are most likely to hit northeast Pennsylvania, a slight chance is expected for the southeast portion of the state Wednesday afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service said.

While brief downpours and gusts around 10 mph are possible, severe weather isn?t in the cards as the mercury hits the mid-to upper 70s Wednesday, the weather service added.

Mid-week temperatures will hit 5 to 15 degrees below historical averages, AccuWeather said, with highs in the 70s and low humidity.

Showers are expected to linger through Thursday, paring with daytime temperatures in the low-mid 70s (?which will make for a very comfortable, if not slightly cool for
late May, day,? the weather service said).

Dry skies are set to return by Friday and the weekend, with the next opportunity for storms as early as Sunday into early next week, the weather service said.

Here?s the latest forecast, according to the National Weather Service:

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 78. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 74. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53.
