Montco Authorities: Felony Lane Gang Vehicle Thefts On The Rise

Residents are reminded to remove valuables from plain sight before leaving cars parked in public places.

UPPER GWYNEDD, PA — Police in Upper Gwynedd and Montgomery County are reminding residents to remove valuables from their cars amid a rise in vehicle thefts they say could be connected to the Felony Lane Gang.

In a release, Upper Gwynedd Township police said the recent lifting of restrictions and regulations due to COVID-19 has correlated with a resurgence in Felony Lane Gang activity, and "significant" numbers of daytime thefts from vehicles have been reported.

Police said thieves watch from areas near the parking lots of gyms, day care centers, churches, parks and sporting events then smash cars' windows and make off with purses, wallets and other valuable items.

The Felony Lane Gang is known to use identifying information taken from purses and wallets to cash fraudulent checks and commit other identity theft crimes.

Because watchful thieves can see where drivers hide their valuables, police recommend hiding items of value before arriving at a destination.
