Montco Man, Longtime Police Chief And World War II Vet, Dies At 96
The beloved, lifelong community member and World War II veteran became the Chief of Police at age 31.

Raymond H. Miley Jr. of Gwynedd Raymond H. Miley, Jr., 96, of Gwynedd and formerly of North Wales, went to be with our Lord Sunday, January 24, 2016.
He was the husband of the late Margaret Elizabeth (Amey) Miley, who died January 22, 2012. Born September 8, 1919 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth (McLaughlin) and Raymond H. Miley, Sr. Mr. Miley was a veteran of the US Army having served his country honorably during World War II.

He began his career in law enforcement as the first Safety Officer with Springfield Township (Montgomery County). He then became the first Chief of Police of Upper Gwynedd Township in 1950.
In 1959, he founded the Miley Security Organization, beginning with the Miley Detective Agency, which grew into numerous security-related fields.

Mr. Miley will be remembered for his dedication to his family and service to the community.
He was a member of countless civic organizations and former President of North Penn Hospital and North Penn Chamber of Commerce.
He also served as Director of the National Navy League and founded the Private Detective Association of Pennsylvania. Survivors include his children, Raymond H. “Randy” Miley III (Lorraine) of Schwenksville, Susan Elizabeth Kull (William T., Jr.) of West Point, Bonnie Miley Bair (Robert L.) of Syracuse, NY, Jane Lynn Sharkey (Dennis J.) of Kulpsville, Margaret Cope Shaffer of West Point, and Robert Wayne Miley of Ambler; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and sister, Esther Pearl Abbott of Gwynedd.
Relatives and friends may call between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. February 5, 2016 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale.
The Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. February 6, 2016 at Foulkeways Retirement Community, 1120 Meetinghouse Road, Gwynedd. Burial will be private in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ambler. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Mr. Miley’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106. -
