No Counties Remain In 'Substantial' Transmission Level In PA

COVID-19 is quickly disappearing in Pennsylvania. Here's where the state stands after passing another key milestone.

PENNSYLVANIA — The COVID-19 pandemic seems to be rapidly drawing to a close in Pennsylvania, as numbers on many key metrics draw closer and closer to zero.

The state reached another key milestone this week when they announced that all counties across the state were out of the "substantial" transmission category. The state has been placing counties in three groupings, substantial, moderate, and low, based on the severity of the outbreak in each respective community.

Gov. Tom Wolf joined health experts in continuing to urge anyone who has not yet received a vaccine to get one.

“Today we are not reporting any counties in the substantial level of transmission – which is great indicator of our fight against COVID-19,” Gov. Wolf said in a statement. “We need to remain resilient in the fight against COVID-19, starting with getting vaccinated and making our communities a safer place."

The statewide percent positivity rate is at its lowest mark of the pandemic, dropping another half a percent from 1.9 to 1.4 percent over the last seven days. A rate of 5 percent or below is considered "suppression" of the virus.

The total number of new cases almost nearly halved itself over that seven day period, falling from 2,228 to 1,370.
