PA Weather: Severe Thunderstorms, 60-MPH Winds Possible Monday

Severe storms could be on the way later Monday in southeastern Pennsylvania. Here's what you need to know.

PENNSYLVANIA — Severe storms are possible in Pennsylvania later Monday, with winds of up to 60 miles per hour potentially leading to power outages.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook throughout the greater Philadelphia area. Heavy rain and some hail are also possible.

The National Weather Service said rain will fall off-and-on during the day before the severe storms hit by mid-to-late evening. They are expected to last overnight, from around 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The Northeast is in for a drop in temperatures and humidity levels later this week, but not before the area endures several stormy days, according to AccuWeather.

Quarter-sized hail was spotted in western Pennsylvania and Ohio on Sunday, and thousands were out of power in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia on Sunday evening, according to AccuWeather. These storms will fail to whisk out the sticky air across New Jersey, with yet another humid and stormy day expected on Monday, according to AccuWeather.

Similar to Sunday, these storms can once again bring hail and damaging wind gusts along with flooding downpours, according to AccuWeather.

Here is the forecast:

  • Monday:A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Monday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 9pm and 3am. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday:A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
