Tree Smashes Through Ambler Home; 3 Rescued

A large tree smashed through a home in Ambler overnight, trapping three people inside.

AMBLER, PA — Three people were rescued during the overnight storm after a large tree crashed through their home, according to officials and media reports.

The incident was first reported after midnight on the 100 block of Tennis Avenue.

Rescue teams from the Wissahickon Fire Company were called to the scene as multiple people were trapped inside the home.

Three residents, including an 81-year-old and a 74-year-old, according to Fox29, were rescued. They were stuck in their bedroom before firefighters arrived and were able to pull them out, according to KYW.

The victims were reportedly both "conscious and alert" when they were rescued.

Heavy winds and torrential rain caused significant power outages in the area overnight, with Ambler and the Upper Dublin area being especially hard-hit.

Some 30 percent of Ambler's PECO customers — more than 900 residents — remained without power as of 12:30 p.m. Friday.
