Whitpain Hosting Free 'Gun Turn-In' Events
In 2018, the event collected 107 unwanted firearms from around the county.

WHITPAIN, PA — The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office will be sponsoring several free gun turn-in events around the county this month to help local residents dispose of unwanted guns.
Eight police departments, including Whitpain, will host the event at their stations, which is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 21.
The 2018 "Operation Safe Homes" event collected 107 unwanted firearms from around the county.

"Let me be very clear: we are not taking guns away from anyone," District Attorney Kevin Steele said in a statement. "This is a community service to any gun-owning resident who has decided to get guns out of their house and permanently off the street."
Once guns are collected, they will be destroyed.

Locations for the event include police departments in Abington, Jenkintown, Lansdale, Lower Merion, Lower Salford, Pottstown, Upper Merion, and Whitpain.
It will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 18 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 21.
