$1.7M Awarded To Presidential Boulevard-Monument Road Connection

BALA CYNWYD, PA — Presidential Boulevard in Bala Cynwyd will be reconnected to Monument Road in Philadelphia thanks for funding from a Commonwealth Financing Authority grant.

According to State Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-Montgomery, the project seeking to connect the roads got a $1.7 million Commonwealth Financing Authority grant via the Multimodal Transportation Fund.

The project costs an estimated $2.72 million.

Heavy congestion due to commercial activity near Monument Road at City Avenue affects vehicles in all directions.

There is no option for vehicles to exit the nearby Target store complex onto Presidential Boulevard, leading to numerous accidents.

The project plan is to connect the roads and the Target access road to provide safe entrance and exit options to the complex.

Additionally, the project would add lighting along Presidential Boulevard, plus drainage improvements, a bus stop construction and a bike and pedestrian path to improve safety, and a walkable alternative for residents from the Lincoln Green and Presidential City Apartments, as well as visitors to the Courtyard by Marriot.

"This is such a well-traveled area, and anybody who’s been stuck in the backlog knows the frustration involved. So, it’s with great pleasure that I can announce this funding, which impacts so many in and around this region," Daley said. "I look forward to the completion of this project and applaud all who helped secure this funding."
