6 Main Line Nursing Homes Among Nation's Best: US News

U.S. News & World Report has released its latest ratings identifying top nursing homes, and six on the Main Line made the list. In the 2018-19 ratings, U.S. News evaluated 695 nursing homes in Pennsylvania and thousands across the country.

Six local facilities were named by the publication as "best nursing homes." The homes are given an overall rating as well as a short-stay rehabilitation rating, a new addition to the ratings that are now in their ninth year.

U.S. News explains that the new rehab rating is aimed at providing patients "with a clearer view of the quality of care provided by nursing homes to short-stay patients" who need rehabilitation or nursing services after suffering from an accident or illness.

Here's a look at the local nursing homes that made the list:

WILLIAM HOOD DUNWOODY CARE CENTER, NEWTOWN SQUARE

WAVERLY HEIGHTS, GLADWYNE
Overall rating: Better than Average

BEAUMONT AT BRYN MAWR, BRYN MAWR
Overall rating: High Performing
Short stay rating: High Performing

QUADRANGLE, HAVERFORD
Overall rating: High Performing
Short stay rating: High Performing

ABRAMSON SENIOR CARE AT LANKENAU MEDICAL CENTER, WYNNEWOOD
Overall rating: High Performing
Short stay rating: High Performing

"Several million Americans will spend at least some time in a nursing home this year, whether undergoing rehab after a hospital stay or as long-term residents," Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News, said in a press release. "Finding a nursing home that meets an individual's specific needs can be overwhelming. The Best Nursing Home ratings are designed to help potential residents and their families navigate this important decision."

Overall, 2,975 nursing homes were included in U.S. News' ratings. More than 15,000 nursing homes nationwide were evaluated to arrive at the list.
